presentation
2. The aim of my project was to create a 3D landscape with depths and buildings to create a complex environment.
3. I roughly recreated oahu, hawaii to show this enviroment, because it had a variety of natural elements, like water which i mainly focused on and many different types buildings. Its also had some great sunsets and sunrises which i wanted to capture.
4. To achieve my aim i had to learn multiple different things like creating buildings and landscapes in cinema 4d, making an island, creating waves, replicating a waterfall, 3d modelling a human in maya and rigging it in Cinema 4D, Laying out my models to create this enviroment and applying a nice colour palette to bring it all together
5. Here are some of my 3d models that i use through out my project
6. To Create the island
-I created 3 differents layers, Water/Beach/Land
-I created the land based of the shape of oahu
- Then i made a copy of that land and made it slighty bigger and lower but made it a different texture to make it look like the beach.
- Lastly i added a plane of water to go around the lands thus creating a island
7. To create the waves
-I had to create a plane and add a displacer to it, to create a wave looking effect on the plane.
-then had to use a animated noise to create the motion of the wave.
-I then found a plug in “hot4d” which let me control the choppiness, wave height and wind direction of the waves.
- using this plug in made a more realistic ocean look.
8. To Replicate a Waterfall
-I used a emitter to create particles.
-Parented a sphere object to the particles.
- added gravity.
-applied a metaball tag to the sphere so the sphere would mesh together and form a glob.
-had to adjust the emitter and metaball setting to creating a flowing water look
-then added a water texture and doubled the emitter to get depth.
9. Here are some images of the making of a human rig
10. These are step by step images of the process of laying out my beach scene
11. And these are images of various colour palette i explored, i ended up using photos of real sunsets and sunrises for the sky because i felt this truly bought the scene alive
12. Everything i learnt in this project will be useful for my major project because i plan on 3d modelling a play environment for kids. color will be one important things i take away from this project aswell as the development of my 3d modelling skills.

animation
This was the first time i animated a human in c4d and creating a rig . I created a basic rig which had limitation in movements but i think was good enough to get the sense of various movements across.

problems
Waves
i struggled for a while finding a tutorial/plug in to help create waves. i found one eventually but was not on time with my timeline, and therefore could not explore it as much as i wanted
Waterfall
learning how to use emitters and particle was hard, there was a lot of fine tuning to get it right, the water keep coming out gloopy and didnt look like water, was more of a lava/slime effect
Colour
trying to find a color palette and apply it, too many colours, colour didnt suit the scene
Time/animating
was running out of time cause spent too long trying to figure out the waves and finding a nice color palette took much longer then expected. could spent as much time animating as i wanted to, wanted more subtle animation in background, trees swaying in the wind , light house and just overall correcting the timing of what i already have animated.
Sky
From having trouble with the color of the scenes made it hard to find colour for the sky that didn't mess up the color palette, for each scene i wanted to show 3 different times of the day morning, noon and night. i wanted to get this right because oahu had some fantastic sunrise and sunset which made the experience much more enjoyable. i ended up using actual photos of the sky which seem to fit in really nicely with the scenes and color.
